The original Dodge Challenger was one of the all-time great movie cars so it was not surprising Chrysler decided to revive the legend. The reissue was described by Road and Track as being “A petrol bath for pent up souls” and I know there are a few of those reading this. This 2019 RT Skat Pack Widebody edition is being auctioned online by Turners Wellington. Read on...
The Challenger pony car was Chrysler’s answer to the Mustang and the Camaro. It was a case of ‘better late than never’ but was immediately immortalised in the film Vanishing Point. That film featured a 1970 Challenger R/T 440 Magnum being driven by an ex race car driver in a big hurry. It’s a classic road movie and the Dodge is a star. Today’s Challenger is not that far removed from the original. It’s not clever, refined or elegant. It’s not a sports car boasting exotic materials and high-minded engineering. It’s just brute force and proud of it.
This car is an imported Skat Pack Widebody edition, which means it has the 6.4L V8 producing 485hp with a hood scoop and wide arches. If it were a movie star it would have limited, grunted dialogue and spend most scenes burning down villages with a flame thrower whilst chugging a beer. And sometimes, that’s really what you’re in the mood for.
This epic car has travelled just 44,000kms and is ready to start lowering the tone of your neighbourhood. More details here.
