If you want fast posh but don’t have a lot of dosh then this could be for you. And this Porsche Cayenne is more than just a trinket to impress the neighbours, despite its meagre price tag. This Cayenne is the 4.8L V8 Turbo for the price of a used Corolla.

Okay, so it’s no 911 Turbo but this 2004 Porsche Cayenne Turbo is a wolf in SUV clothing and is ready to take on the school run in an exclusive zone near you. Where the standard Cayenne is a solid performer the Turbo is straight up staggering. It may weigh as much as a planet but the 450hp twin turbo V8 will propel it from a standstill to 100kph in a smidgen over 5 seconds and keep going until 265kph is reached. It also has some tricky suspension and a clever all wheel drive system. Inside it is fit for a king and queen with entertainment options in the rear for little princes and princesses.

The reason for the sub $15k price tag is the high mileage and the fact it is celebrating 14 years on NZ roads. But while it has racked up 216,000kms it would be fair to say that not many of those were recorded off road. The Cayenne is very much a road car that can go off-road, in theory, but I’m not sure anyone has tested this theory yet. However, it does have a towbar and enough horsepower and torque to tow just about anything.

So there you have it, a spectacular SUV with a few kilometres on the clock. And before you get scared off by the potential maintenance issues that you might expect for a car of this age and mileage (it does have a clean mechanical report though), imagine someone offering you a 14 year old 911 Turbo with one million ks on the clock for $15k. You’d take it, of course you would. And there’s no room for the kids in the 911.
