Could You Be Going Home in an Ambulance? 27th March, 2017

If any vehicle carries good Karma then it has to be an ambulance. Sure a few passengers may have shuffled off this mortal coil in the back but many more will have been saved, comforted and reassured on their way to hospital. So it may have a few kilometres on the clock but they’ve all been travelled for the greater good of your fellow men, women and children. Read on...

The job of an ambulance is to get people to hospital quickly and safely and it’s often a life or death scenario. So you know the ambulance service isn’t going to use a vehicle that can’t hack it and they aren’t going to cut corners when it comes to servicing with so much riding on its reliability. So while it has been busy racking up some pretty serious mileage it’s fairly safe to say that it still has plenty of life left in it.

The Mercedes 318 Sprinter has good power and drives like a car – albeit a car with nearly enough room for another car in the back. They are pricy when new ($65k+) but with over 500,000kms on the clock this ex life saver will save you a heap of money over a new one. Expectation is $6500 - $7500.

The vital signs: 534,000km, 2.1L Turbo diesel, ABS, Air conditioning, a good heart beat, breathing easy with only minor cuts and abrasions.

The auction for this heroic people mover is on Thursday (30th March) at Turners Wellington. It could be the least traumatic way you ever get to go home in an ambulance if you buy it. More details here
