Has This Commer Come to a Full stop?

Whilst it looks like its trucking days may be over I really hope that’s not the case. As I looked through the photos of this 1954 Commer Superpoise truck I couldn’t help noticing its photogenic qualities. Its faded paint, rusty chrome and worn interior remind me of the heavily lined and tanned face of an old man who’s worked hard all his life but still looks ready for more. This truck needs recommissioning, not restoring. Are you up for it?

One for the Good Ol’ Boys - 29th February, 2016

If this was America this Dodge Ram 1500 Big Daddy pick up would be covered in “Trump for President” stickers and be driven by a big guy in a trucker’s cap called Bubba. Luckily it’s in NZ, at Turners Wellington, which means the next owner doesn’t need to be an angry redneck.

Urban Adventurer - 25th February, 2016

For all its off-road pedigree and its rugged build quality it’s fairly safe to say that not many Range Rover Evoques will ever experience a muddy track. The Evoque is an urban offroader and a very comfortable one, too. This 2014 example is high-spec and the cheapest one on the market. And it’s ready to take on the gruelling school run.

Perfect Timing - 18th February, 2016

This weekend is Napier’s annual celebration of its Art Deco architecture and all things early 20th century. Every year hundreds of veteran cars from all over NZ and beyond congregate in the city and cruise around adding to the period of Art Deco weekend. And as luck would have it, Turners has a perfect car to join the fun. And it’s for sale, too.

Did Somebody Call an Ambulance? 15th February, 2016

I’m not sure which Government department purchased this Ambulance in 1982 but seeing as the Range Rover was the poshest 4x4 wagon available back then we have to assume its passengers were pretty important, if somewhat injured or dying. Still, 34 years of service is pretty good value for tax-payers and now it’s for sale with an auction estimate that’s a bit of a life saver.

Did You Know There Was a Fairmont GT? 12th February, 2016

It looks like a Ford Falcon XY GT but there’s more to it than that. It was built in Australia for the South African market, is badged Fairmont GT and is very rare. It’s also being auctioned by Turners Dunedin with a $1 reserve. So what’s the story behind the African GT and is it the same as the uber collectible Falcon version we know.

Big Hair and Shoulder Pads Required - 9th February, 2016

The SL class Mercs have always been a favourite of wealthy scenesters and movie stars since they first appeared in 1954 with the gorgeous (and insanely valuable) SL300 Gullwing. This NZ new 500SL from 1993 may not command the massive money of the early cars just yet but surely that’s a good reason to get in now. With an auction estimate of just $6900-$8900 the only way must surely be up.

Mildly Munted Merc - 5th February, 2016

1967 was a great year for music (The Doors debut album, Sgt Peppers, Velvet Underground and Nico, Pink Floyd’s debut album, Jimi Hendrix’ debut album – the list is huge actually), births (Will Ferrell, Julia Roberts, Vanilla Ice etc) and cars, too. Like this 1967 Mercedes 230S Fintail with a lightly bent backside (who’s isn’t at 48 years young?). It’s well worth saving and maybe you could be its saviour?

A Bit of Posh For Not Much Dosh - 2nd February, 2016

Once upon a time you had to be a wealthy business person, a politician or a head of State to afford the luxury of wafting around in a Jaguar. But this classic looking Jag has an auction estimate of just $2000 - $3000, which is a worn out old Corolla price. A Jag still screams money even if you don’t need much to own this one. So what gives?
